Home is where the art is.
Start spreading the news because those of us a sensitive, maybe hyper-sensitive, disposition have a new home.
That home is The Wants.
Brooding, bold, belligerent ghouls who craft the sort of post-punk, new wave, indie-pop, electro soaked music that thrusts the grotesque and lonely, or the grotesquely lonely, onto dancefloors to thrust, twist and twirl their bodies into something that resembles dancing.
Maybe it’s just me.
Their latest single, “Motor”, is as influenced by the visual and tonal aspect of David Lynch’s “Lost Highway” as it is by any musician…including Bowie who’s “I’m Deranged” (from the soundtrack to the aforementioned “Lost Highway”) is a clear reference point. Throbbing, pulsing, grinding like a perfectly imperfect vision of what pop music should be.
What The Wants offer is something more sub-sub-sub-stantial than your average wannabe’s. They are neither all surface nor all feeling. They understand that the best groups provide both art and artifice. So along with carefully presented visuals…from their clothes, videos and artwork their are deeper, purer and more emotional representations of the themes that drive them within the music and the words.
“Motor” can be heard here.
